Numerical Multiscale Methods for Coupled Oscillators

چکیده
A multiscale method for computing the effective slow behavior of a system of weakly coupled general oscillators is presented. The oscillators may be either in the form of a periodic solution or a stable limit cycle. Furthermore, the oscillators may be in resonance with one another and thereby generate some hidden slow dynamics. The proposed method relies on correctly tracking a set of slow variables that is sufficient to approximate any variable and functional that are slow under the dynamics of the ODE. The technique is more efficient than existing methods and its advantages are demonstrated with examples. The algorithm follows the framework of the heterogeneous multiscale method.

Multiscale modeling and simulation of nanotube-based torsional oscillators
In this paper, we propose the first numerical study of nanotube-based torsional oscillators via developing a new multiscale model. The edge-to-edge technique was employed in this multiscale method to couple the molecular model, i.e., nanotubes, and the continuum model, i.e., the metal paddle. Without losing accuracy, the metal paddle was treated as the rigid body in the continuum model. Torsion...
متن کاملImplicit-Explicit Variational Integration of Highly Oscillatory Problems
In this paper, we derive a variational integrator for certain highly oscillatory problems in mechanics. To do this, we take a new approach to the splitting of fast and slow potential forces: rather than splitting these forces at the level of the differential equations or the Hamiltonian, we split the two potentials with respect to the Lagrangian action integral. By using a different quadrature ...
متن کاملA Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions
In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...
متن کاملA FEM Multiscale Homogenization Procedure using Nanoindentation for High Performance Concrete
This paper aims to develop a numerical multiscale homogenization method for prediction of elasto-viscoplastic properties of a high performance concrete (HPC). The homogenization procedure is separated into two-levels according to the microstructure of the HPC: the mortar or matrix level and the concrete level. The elasto-viscoplastic behavior of individual microstructural phases of the matrix a...
متن کاملFluidic Oscillators’ Applications, Structures and Mechanisms – A Review
Enhancement of heat and mass transfer and decrease of energy dissipation are great necessities of the evolution of fluid flow devices. Utilizing oscillatory or pulsatile fluid flow for periodic disturbing of velocity and thermal boundary layers is one of the methods with exciting results. Passive methods of generating oscillatory flow are preferred to active methods because of simplicity, no ne...
